Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)

The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is the internationally standardized 17-digit number for unambiguous identification of a vehicle. It comprises a manufacturer identifier, a manufacturer-specific code and a consecutive number. The VIN replaces the former chassis number that was individually assigned by the vehicle manufacturer. The VIN number assignment is defined in ISO 3779.
